A website becomes easier to find when search engines can crawl it, choose a canonical URL, and match that page to a question a person asked. Being indexed, ranking for a query, and being quoted by an AI answer are three different results. You can improve the first with concrete work. You cannot buy the other two with a tag or a crawler setting.
Crawling and indexing
Google’s own description of search starts with discovering pages, then indexing the ones it considers useful. See How Google Search Works and the SEO Starter Guide. Practical consequences:
- Important text is in the HTML response, not only painted by a script after load.
- Links to those pages are ordinary
<a href>links. - The page returns a successful status, and a retired page redirects or is removed on purpose.
- One canonical URL is declared, and the sitemap lists that URL.
noindexis reserved for pages that should stay out, such as utility screens.
A URL in a sitemap is a hint. It is not proof the URL is indexed. Check the page in Search Console if you need to know.
On-page clarity
Each page should answer one job. The title, the H1, and the opening paragraph should agree. A service page that repeats a keyword in every heading is harder to read and does not create a new entity. Internal links should use words that describe the destination, such as website design and development, rather than “click here” on every card.
Structured data should repeat facts that are visible: the organization, the page, and, on an article, the author and publisher. It should not add reviews, awards, or addresses you do not show.
AI search eligibility
Google documents AI features as part of Search, not as a separate ranking channel you opt into with a special file. There is no llms.txt requirement in that guidance, and adding one does not create a citation.
ChatGPT Search uses OpenAI’s search crawler, documented with OpenAI’s other bots at Overview of OpenAI crawlers. Allowing OAI-SearchBot means a page may be fetched for search. It is not the same control as GPTBot, and neither setting is a recommendation.
What does help an answer engine is the same material a person needs: a direct answer near the top, specific details, sources for factual claims, and a business identity that matches the rest of the site. Zylora’s SEO and AI search service is scoped that way, with the limits stated on the page.
What to measure
Use Search Console for coverage and queries, and analytics for whether a visit reaches a contact action. Improve pages that are indexed but fail to explain the offer, or pages that cannot be fetched. Do not report a ranking change from a single unofficial checker.
Performance and content structure support this work. A slow, unstable page is a worse experience and a weaker candidate. The Core Web Vitals guide covers measurement. Lead paths are covered in turning a site into a lead tool.
Limitations
Nothing in Google’s or OpenAI’s documentation promises that correct markup, a sitemap, or an allowed crawler will produce a ranking or a citation. Competition, queries, and the systems themselves sit outside a design contract. Treat any vendor who promises a fixed position or a guaranteed AI mention as describing an outcome they do not control.
